The Flame in the Flood is a roguelike survival game from studio The Molasses Flood. You set off on a long journey down the river through post-apocalyptic America, where the main goal is to last as long as possible.
To survive, you'll need to gather resources, find food, locate shelters, repair the boat, and keep an eye on the heroine's health. Time is limited: you have to keep moving downriver before the rains catch up with you.
The game features a crafting system, so searching for various items in the surrounding world is important. The thoughtful wound treatment system deserves special mention β the player needs to know how to deal with a snake bite or hypothermia.
The developers placed a strong emphasis on procedural generation. Everything β from the river itself to every encounter with AI-controlled creatures β is created on the fly. NPC behavior is influenced by fear, hunger, and aggression.
As befits a roguelike, death here is to a certain extent irreversible: after dying you start from the upper reaches of the river, but some items can be preserved thanks to your loyal dog.
