Rising Storm — The Pacific Theater of World War II

Rising Storm is a multiplayer tactical first-person shooter published by Tripwire Interactive in 2013 and co-developed with Antimatter Games. This standalone expansion to Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad brings the series' signature uncompromising realism to the Pacific front. There are no arcade-style concessions here—only tense battles for islands where every mistake can prove costly.

Two opposing forces meet on the battlefield: the United States Marine Corps and United States Army against the Imperial Japanese Army. The sides are intentionally asymmetric: the Americans rely on superior firepower and automatic weapons, while the Japanese focus on close-quarters combat, concealment, and their renowned banzai charges, which boost morale and suppress the enemy.

Scale and Gameplay Mechanics

  • Battles for up to 64 players on maps based on real campaigns across the Pacific islands
  • Asymmetric factions—the United States and Imperial Japan, each with distinct weapons and tactics
  • Flamethrowers, hand-held mortars, and characteristic weapons used by both sides
  • Suppression and morale systems: gunfire pins enemies down, while banzai charges can break their formation
  • Team-based combat, objective capture, and realistic ballistics

The game does not forgive mistakes: a single hit is often fatal, and survival depends on squad coordination and knowledge of the map. This is what places Rising Storm among serious tactical shooters rather than casual arcade games.
