Lords of the Fallen (2023) is a soulslike action RPG from developer Hexworks and publisher CI Games. A reboot of the series, it sends you into the dark fantasy world of Mournstead as a custom-built Dark Crusader on a quest to topple the resurrected demon god Adyr.
Combat is deliberate and demanding, built around stamina management, parries, and punishing boss encounters. You shape your own character from the start, choosing a starting class and then investing in strength, magic, and gear to build anything from a heavy armored knight to an agile spellblade. Exploration, hidden paths, and powerful equipment reward players who push deeper into hostile territory.
The defining feature is the dual-world Umbral system. With the Umbral Lamp you can peer into and cross over between Axiom, the realm of the living, and Umbral, the haunting world of the dead. Each realm hides different routes, secrets, and dangers, and lingering too long in Umbral draws relentless enemies. The game also supports online co-op, letting a friend join your campaign.
