Breath of Fire IV is a classic Japanese RPG in which you develop skills and magic, carefully plan battles against unusual enemies, and combine powerful dragon transformations with combo techniques. Its story follows the intertwined destinies of two heroes, Ryu and Fou-Lu, leading toward a tense conclusion.

The adventure takes place in a distant world where two continents were separated for many years by a vast swampland. Their first contact led to war, but after exhausting battles, the western Fou Empire and an alliance of eastern states agreed to a truce. One year later, Princess Elina disappears without a trace, prompting her sister Nina to begin searching for her.

Characters and party members

Along the way, the party brings together Ryu, who has a mysterious past; Nina of Wyndia; the mercenary Scias; Cray, chief of the Woren tribe; the armored Ershin; Ursula of the Fou Empire; and Fou-Lu himself, the empire's first emperor. Each companion contributes distinct abilities and plays a role in the wider story.
